Activities

Education empowers an individual and enables a nation as the greatest sustaining factor in society’s growth. Still a large segment of the younger generation does not have access to school/colleges, libraries & textbooks because of various factors. The CBJEF has always promptly responded to such causes.

Text Book Banks - Since 2019

Education allows access to the collective wisdom, learning and thinking of the human race through various means of knowledge transmission, One such important tool in the academic area is the TEXT BOOK – text books for schools and colleges. Thus, as a part of its expanding endeavours, a unique “Text Book Bank” project was launched by the CBJEF in the year 2019. CBJEF’s first “Text Book Bank” was inaugurated on 22nd May 2019 at the Govt. P.U. College in Lakkur, Malur taluk in Kolar district. Aimed at providing textbooks to needy, rural Pre-university students of Govt./ P U Colleges, along with some pre-requisites like cupboards for storing books, The project has been initiated and continued by the CBJEF, largely relying on the responsive support of a few institutional donors mainly Canara Bank (the CBJEF was set up by Canara Bank) and other like Can Fin Homes Ltd., The Tamil Nadu Mercantile Bank Ltd., and the National e-Governance Ltd, etc. The task involves much meticulous coordination by the CBJEF transportation, co ordinating with local govt and bank officials and follow-up with the respective colleges. The CBJEF’s Text Books, opened during 2019, 2021 and 2022, numbering 23 in all, spread out in Govt. P U Colleges in Kolar, Hassan, Shimoga and Chikkaballapur districts. The inaugural function arranged in the respective colleges, has the participation of officials from Govt. departments, executives from Canara Bank and local Bank officials, representatives from the CBJEF as well as the Principals, staff and students and sets of Text Books are symbolically handed over to the beneficiaries by the dignitaries present.At these inaugural functions, Note Books have also been distributed to the college students for their use. In addition, toppers of SSLC, presently studying in 1st PUC and toppers of 1st PUC, presently studying in 2nd PUC, have been felicitated by the CBJEF with merit scholarships. All the Text Book Banks set up till now, have evoked a good response and have been functioning well.

Note Book Distribution - Since 2020

Apart from the Notebook distribution at the Text Book Bank centres, the CBJEF has been organising Notebook distribution programme.(Generally in the name of Shri, S R Prabhu, former GM- Canara Bank and first secretary of the CBJEF) for the last nine years in Shimoga District. At a function organised every year, Note Books are distributed to the tenth standard students of the Ikkeri High School, Edajigalemane in Sagar taluk (Shimoga Dost) for their use.

Pratibha Puraskara - Since 2007

CBJEF has been sponsoring different educational programmes such as token education aid to deserving needy students, Pratibha Puraskara"-honouring neritorious rural High School students [SSLC], providing text-books /note books to such students, providing school bags, books and uniforms to needy children, supporting rural libraries, teachers' training programmes and so on. Honouring the top scorers in SSLC and students of 10th std scoring the highest marks in Kannada as first language mainly in rural High Schools at some centres- Shimoga district (lead district of Canara Bank), Dakshina Kannada (Sullia and other places), Udupi and North Kanara districts and Hassan district.

Education Aid - Since 2005

Under this activity, the CBJEF’s token education aid is disbursed to deserving, indigent students studying at the schools/Colleges level, after proper screening & selection. The CBJEF has also been coordinating such programmes for many years with the Sanjivi Janardhan Kini Trust, Bangalore, for direct educational assistance to needy deserving students.

Teacher's Training Programme - Since 2015

The CBJEF has been extending support for short Teachers’ Training Programmes conducted along with a few other organisations, mainly for teachers of un-aided High Schools in Udupi District. The sessions covering pertinent topics are aimed at enriching knowledge and learning modules and re-skilling teaching methodology. The inaugural and valedictory functions are attended by several dignitaries from education and other fields.

Children's Summer Camps - Since 2004

For the past many years, the CBJEF has been associated with the Summer Camp for rural children organised by the Mahila Samaj at Bidadi (near Bangalore). The variety of skills including drawing, painting and crafts are imparted to the children by experienced resource persons at the camp. The CBJEF, has been extending token Financial support for this activity.

Consumer Education - Since 2005

As part of its support to consumer education, the CBJEF has been sponsoring consumer awareness publications/programmes of mainly the consumer forums ( Balakedarara Vedike) at Sagar and Udupi in response to request.

Health Education - Since 2018

Towards promoting Health Education, very useful guidebooks on “Yoga” (in Kannada) are regularly distributed to participants at the “Pratibha Puraskara” and other programmes organised by the CBJEF at different centres. The main objective is to inculcate preventive Health practices in daily life for integrated development with spiritual values.

Towards promoting health and hygiene awareness,in recent times Incinerators have been supplied to various colleges in and outside bangalore.

Skill Training Programmes for Rural Women

The CBJEF also extends periodic support for skill training programmes such as preparation of Home Products like spice powder, making of paper and cloth bags, garlands, and bridal mehndi etc., mainly in Udupi, based on appeals received from the local coordinators.

Vidhya Vahini Newsletter

The CBJEF’s Newsletter ‘Vidya Vahini” was launched in the year 2010 and the first issue was released by Shri K L Jagadeesh Pai, Executive Director of Canara Bank, at a function organised by CBJEF in Bangalore. In the last 13 years, “Vidya Vahini” has grown from strength to strength, documenting the different educational activities of the CBJEF, highlighting the academic achievements of its Book Bank members, and carrying informative articles on Education. The publication which is sent to the executives and offices of Canara Bank, donors, and some regular members of CBJEF and other well-wishers, has steadily gained in esteem and earned much goodwill.
