Shri A.Subba Rao Pai
Founder of Canara Bank
“A Good Bank is not only the financial heart of the community but one with an obligation of helping in every possible manner, to improve the economic condition of the common people.” - Shri A.Subba Rao Pai
Objective
The main objective was to promote and encourage higher technical and scientific education by extending financial assistance(loan scholarship) to deserving students pursuing Engineering and Medical courses. The broader objectives included encouragement and support, both for formal and non-formal education in different ways. In a ways, it was a pioneering effort at a time when it was difficult to pursue professional courses.
  • To promote & encourage the pursuit of higher technical education and scientific education, by extending loan scholarships to deserving students for higher studies (this was discontinued after Banks started their educational loan schemes).
  • Lending valuable reference books, mainly to Engineering / Medical students through CBJEF’s Book Bank.
  • The broader objectives included participation and support, both for formal and non-formal educational activities, in tune with the basic ideals.
